Writing is HARD.
Of course, we know writing is hard, writers try and do it all the time and we just constantly procrastinate and overthink and edit. yes, this post will be completely written as fast as possible with as few editing thoguhts in place while I do so.
I’ve gotten 1/3 of the way through NaNoWriMo, my first year doing so, ever since I’ve wanted to do this when I was 12 years old. (Ms. Nosal, you rock, you always believed in me, and I’m finally writing a novel. or, trying to. Thanks for everything.)
I’ve just hit 20,000 words today, which is a bit ahead of my goal, but I can promise you I have no utter idea what I’m doing , and I’m going to be leaving this motnth with less glarity than I started it with. My story is about a bunch of steampunk faeries (huh, guess wehre that I dea started) (WOW okay going to try and be a little more careful):

And although I have a lovely world, lovely characters, and about 13 different possible directions to go with the plot, being creative and eloquent feels impossible 90% of the time. I even decided to make my book into an anthology of sthort stories, and I stole the first idea from A Midsummer Night’s Dream! And I can’t even write it! I can’t even write a story that already exists!
That is, I’ve already written 3700+ words of the story, but most of that is little notes for parts I’m too bored to write at the moment, or the most basic of narration that I will most certainly cringe over when rereading. I have no idea if I’ll even want to edit this into someting worthwhile!
Which is okay.
The whole point is to have the discipline. To be able to know that I can write soemthing, just something, even if it’s garbage, every single day. I can’t edit it until it’s there, and even if I throw it out completely, at least I’ve narrowed down my plot by one more idea.
My amazing and excellent writing buddy and mentor, Kate G. Jameson (check out her blog: https://kategjameson.com/) has told me that NaNo is more about learning who you are as a writer than actually writing a novel.
So, here we are. With an amazing ability to type quite quickly now and a slightly greater capacity for making mistakes and not careing. Hope you’ve enjoyed this first epdate, U hope that you all have an amazing day and this hasn’t scared you away from doing NaNo. Do the thing!
